Dachigam National ParkIt is not wrong to say that Gods are actually envious of this place on the earth. Someone said "when Dachigam is in full bloom with all it's wild fruit trees and beautiful animals, it makes you feel that this is the closest you could get to the abode of the Gods". The beauty of this place is beyond anybody imagination. Just imagine a most beautiful place and then add Wild Cherry, Pear, Plum, Peach, Apple, Apricot, Walnut and Chestnut trees. India's most scenically beautiful park is Dachigam National Park.

It is located 22 kms from Srinagar, capital city of northern state Jammu and Kashmir. The area covered by this place is 141 square kilometers which also includes some of the most scenic natural beauty on Earth.

The park is demarcated in an upper and lower region due to its variation in altitude which is 5500 ft to 14000 ft above sea level. The best time to visit the two different regions is also different. In the upper region best months to visit are May and August and in lower region the ideal time is between September and December.

For some unique Himalayan range of flora and fauna Dachigam is considered as home. Mainly hangul or Kashmir stag, the most endangered species of red deer in the world.

Dachigam National ParkSince 1910 this park has been protected. Earlier it was by Maharaja of J & K and later by concerned government authorities. The name of the park is in the memory of ten villages which were relocated for it's formation and so the name stands for "ten villages". It was declared as National Park in 1981 after upgradation. It was initially created for clean water supply for the city of Srinaga rbut now It is the last proper home of the Hangul, or Kashmir Stag, and harbours many rare species within it's borders.

To see the glory of sanctuary it is not possible in just one visit as the entire look changes with the onset of each season it becomes more and more beautiful with the arrival of each season.

To visit the place one can select any one of three modes of travelling. The nearest town to the park is Srinagar which is 22 kms and there lies the nearest airport also. Nearest railway station is located at Jammu which is 315 kms from the park.
