Friday’s
Place is where you can mingle with the different moods of
nature like never before. It is indeed the place where you will
be enlightened of the art of simple and healthy living, while
keeping the harmony with surrounding environment. Kept
hidden in acres of undeveloped palm groves,
this eco- friendly retreat ensures minimal
intrusion on the prevailing eco system around and offers maximum
privacy to its guests.
A 40 minutes drive from
Trivandrum Airport will take you to the small town of Poovar,
where the glistening Neyyar River captures every visitor’s
attention. Nestled on the quiet banks
of this river is the Friday’s
Place, which can be accessed either by
walking through the palm garden or by boat from the town.
Accommodation at Friday’s Place comes in the form of traditional styled independent cottages, each having its own canalled island dotted with shady palms, blooming hibiscus and jasmine. Local and recycled materials form the basic ingredients of which the cottages are made of. Simple but comfortable ambiences mark the interiors of every cottage. All rooms are equipped and decorated so as to make you feel at home. Solar power is used to run all electrical appliances like ceiling fans and lighting.
Traditional Kerala recipes prepared from organic produce, fresh fruits (from the local market) and freshly caught crabs, local mussels, chicken and fish form the main menu here. Besides, being a Srilankan origin, the host Sujeewa uses her skills by combining the local specialties with those of her native country. If you are interested in experimenting food outside the eco-lodge then 10 minutes down the river is a floating restaurant that serves best king prawns and other local specialties. Also you can make a trip to the white sandy Kovalam Beach with numerous bars and restaurants, which is only half an hour away.
Being a guest at Friday’s Inn you have ample opportunities to spend quality time visiting various nearby attractions or just laze in your hammock doing nothing. Begin your day with a quiet and cool early morning yoga session. Go chasing the black necked stork or the kingfisher by day. Later you can welcome the evening with soft conversation, music and star gazing, or go sailing around the tranquil backwaters while the local boatman intimates you about the local culture and the varied flora and fauna. Better still; spend some hours enjoying a rejuvenating massage.
