Philipkutty’s
Farm, is an excellent effort
on part of a generous local Keralite family,
who want to showcase the emerald
backwaters of Kerala and real rural India in its simplest
and pure natural format. Everything
here is solely based on the
concept of sustainable and socially responsible tourism.
A visit to this unique eco friendly hide out is supplemented
with endless opportunities to keep you spellbound. It’s
like having a holiday right in the cuddle of nature without
missing the warmth and comforts of a homely ambience.
Philipkutty’s
Farm is located on a beautiful
island, which has been reclaimed from the backwaters of
the Vembanad Lake for agriculture
in the early 1950’s. The 50
acre working farm, which is based on organic farming, is
divided into many ridges and canals.
While the ridges are dotted with organically
grown plantations like coconut, toddy, nutmeg, banana, cocoa
and many varieties of spices, the canals form excellent
options for natural fish culture.
Also you can spot a few cows,
geese, ducks and hens in the farm.
Set within the confines of this small beautiful organic farm island are the three traditional villas with ample space and privacy. Each of these villas is built and designed keeping in mind the surrounding ecological system and also adequate steps are taken to provide the necessary comforts for the guests. There are plenty of options to witness the lush beautiful surroundings including the tranquil backwaters from within the comfort of your rooms here.
Dining
at Philipkutty’s
Farm is a lavish affair with local
home cooked dishes as the main
menu. You can either dine with the family in their dining
room or in the lush courtyard or pavilion with sky as the
roof. Organically grown farm
vegetables, fruits, freshly caught fishes, duck and chicken
supplemented with rice and
rice based local substitutes form the basic ingredients
for your appetite.
Apart from just relaxing in the peaceful and quiet surroundings, you can have ample exciting opportunities to keep yourself busy. Go for a swimming session in the peaceful backwaters. Spend some time knowing about the family and their various eco friendly measures. Get lucky with a big catch on a fishing adventure, or learn how to prepare and cook some local Kerala specialties from the hostess. Bird watchers can take a boat ride through the main canal in the farm to spot kingfishers, woodpeckers, egrets, herons and many other spectacular water birds. Observe the scenic backwater villages from a floating boat, or proceed on a village expedition on foot or on a bicycle.
