When nature calls,
little did one can do to resist the temptation. At a time
when planet Earth is fast losing its greenery, subjected
to the selfish motifs of mankind, there are places that
still exude the vibrant colors of nature.
The Rainforest Retreat, in the heart of Western Ghats,
is a fine example in this regard. Located
in Coorg District of southern Karnataka,
this naturalist’s paradise is an Organic
Spice Plantation and Research Center
initiated by two ardent and passionate lovers of nature,
Sujata and Anurag Goel, who have extensive knowledge on
the ecological system. Their main objective is to
promote ecological awareness and develop sustainable methods
of agriculture for this unique
and fragile environment.
Surrounded by rolling hills and densely forested valleys, the retreat is a sheer natural delight. Where one awaken to the sweet melodies of colorful birds and fragrances of exotic flowers. Where enchanting tropical rainforest and remote idyllic valleys with exquisite rare orchids spread a quaint serene happiness. Where you can learn how coffee, cardamom, pepper and vanilla are originally cultivated, or go angling in the waters of nearby Cauvery River.
There are two kinds of accommodation arrangement at Rainforest, Deluxe Cottage and
Plantation Cottage. Deluxe Cottage features two independent bedroom units with a large common living room space. One is fitted with a large deluxe bathroom while the other is attached to a standard bathroom. The Plantation Cottage on the other hand is set in a rustic surrounding dotted with a range of bamboo, banana, coffee and orange plants. It has two bedrooms (with attached western toilets). The living room is spacious and complete with kitchenette and fireplace with balcony overlooking a crystal clear stream.
A careful selection of Indian and continental cuisine will take care of your appetite, featuring home made breads and pastas, savory curries, fresh sea food, locally grown vegetables and fruits, and not to forget the home grown coffee.
