Renowned for its temple ruins, Lakhamandal situated on the banks of river Yamuna is often associated with the Lakhshagriha that is described in Mahabharata. The story goes that the Kaurava Prince Duryodhana had built a lac palace here, in which he tried to burn his cousins- the Pandavas alive. The Pandavas, however managed to escape through a secret passage, which the locals say still exists even today. An important attraction of Lakhamandal is its temple dedicated to Bhagwati and Lord Shiva. The best time to visit the temple is during the local Diwali, which is generally held one month after the Diwali in the plains.

A cultural and historical trek in the Jaunsar-Babar region, one gets to see and learn a lot of things during the trek E.g., The Jaunsaris tribes located at the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayas are known to practice polygamy as well as polyandry. Furthermore as the route of the trek is rich with flora and fauna, it makes for an unforgettable experience for ornithologists and the naturalists.

ITINERARY

Destination : Delhi - Rishikesh - Lakhamandal - Goraghati - Dungyara - Chaurani-Biratkhoi - Kalsi - Dakpathar - Haridwar - Delhi

Duration : 7 Days

Day1: Delhi - Rishikesh. (225 kms/6-7 hrs)

Drive to Rishikesh from Delhi; visit Triveni Ghat, Laxman Jhoola, Bharat Mandir, Neelkanth Mahadev and halt

Day 2: Rishikesh - Lakhamandal

Drive to Lakhamandal 15 kms via Mussoorie. Dinner & Overnight at Camps.

Day3: Lakhamandal - Baijnath

Drive 12 kms to Goraghati and another 12 kms trek to Baijnath. Dinner and overnight in camp.

Day 4: Baijnath - Magti

Leave Baijnath for another 17 kms trek to Magti .Camp overnight Kalsi Lakhamandal Trek, Kalsi Trekking Tour

Day 5: Magti - Biratkhoi

Trek11 kms to Biratkhoi from Magti. Visit an epic fort now in ruins which according to the legends of Mahabharata, belonged to Maharaja Birat. Dinner and overnight in camp.

Day 6: Biratkhoi - Kalsi

Trek another 22 kms to reach Kalsi and Halt

Day 7: Kalsi to Haridwar (121 Kms/ 4Hr)

Drive to Hardwar via Dakpathar, Dehradun.. Arrive at Haridwar local sightseeing and leave Haridwar for Delhi in evening/night.
