Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is a sanctuary mainly for the preservation of endangered Nilgiri Tahr. The park now has the largest population of Nilgiri Tahr for which this park was formed. The park also has Atlas Moth, Elephants, Sambhar's, Gaurs, Lion-tailed Macaque, Nilgiri, Langur, Tigers and Leopards.

Eravikulam National ParkArea covered by this park is 97 sq. kms, and the park gives a view to the breathtaking natural splendor of rolling grasslands and exotic flowers. The highest peak south of Himalayas Anamudi 2695 m, is located within the park area and is a good trekking place also. The largest of its kind in the world which is a unique possession of the park is Atlas Moth.

Eravikulam National Park is situated in the higher altitudes of the Western Ghats in the south Indian state of Kerala. The park extends from the latitude 9°40' in the North to the longitude 77°20" in the East. A part of the Idukki district, Eravikulam is very near to the scenic hill station of Munnar.

January and February are the best time to visit the place as the area receives very less rainfall and weather is normally clear during this time of the year. The climate in this region is mainly affected by southwestern monsoon. June, July and August are the monsoon months and during this period region receives maximum rainfall. April and May are hottest months. From September to December monsoon from northeast brings a little rain to the region.

To reach here by air the nearest airport is at Kochi, 135 km and by rail nearest railway station is located at Aluva 115 km.
