Pin Valley Park, located in Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. The place was declared as a national park in 1987. The total area covered by the place is 675 sq kms. The wildlife here mainly has Siberian Ibex, Snow Leopard, Bharal, Wooly Hare, Tibetan Wolf, Red Fox and Snow Cock. And the Bird species consists of the Himalayan Snowcock, Chukor, Snow Partridge and the Tibet Snow Finch, Kestrels, Bearded Vulture and Golden Eagle. The Best time to visit the place is in July to October out of which August is the best. Due to heavy snowfall makes it risky to visit the Park from late December to March. The summer season is from late May to September.
The park forms a natural habitat for a number of endangered animals like Snow Leopard and Siberian Ibex due to its snow laden unexplored higher reaches and slopes. Pin Valley is located in the cold desert region of the Spiti valley. The park marks he Lahaul and Spiti divisions is spreaded in south of Dhankar in the Spiti district near Tibetan border. The elevation of the Park ranges from about 3,500 mts near Ka Dogri to more than 6,000 mts at its highest point.
Being the place of high altitude and extreme temperatures the vegetation in the area is scant and mostly one can find alpine trees, patches of Himalayan cedar and several medicinal plants. Flowers decorate the valley with startling hues during the summer season. Rare birds like the Himalayan Snowcock, Chukor, Snow Partridge and the Tibet Snow Finch also flourish in the area.
The area is influenced of Tibetan culture. It is surrounded by visible in the Buddhist lamas, shrines, monasteries and culture of its residents.
One can reach the Park only on foot from the nearest road terminus at Mikkim. One route to Pin Valley is via Manali, Rohtang Pass and Kumzum La, while another is more commonly used via Shimla, Tapri and Kaza.
